Jumpin' Zebras

I was able to find this fun toy at a consignment shop for $15 - and it was 20% off! So that made it a whopping $12! I have seen it retail for $45! It was like-new and even came with working batteries! Justin loves to bounce on it. I even have trouble keeping his big brothers off of it! You can tell by his face how much he us enjoying himself!

Happy Columbus Day!

Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer - backed with cash from the Spanish. His famous voyage in 1492 was to try to find trade routes to the colonies for spices - which were expensive and hard to come by at that time. The anniversary of his landing in the Americas is Oct. 12, 1492 and today is the observed holiday - in the US and in Spain.

Sean came home with a picture of the Earth and he cut-out a ship with Christopher Columbus in it that sailed around and around the Earth. He thought it was so neat - and his teacher did the same project with Brian!

Football, no soccer

Brian didn't have a soccer game this weekend because it was Columbus Day weekend.

Not a great week for the Ravens - they lost to the Colts 31-3. It was hard to watch. Joe was 28/38 and passed for 241 yds. That is all really great, but he had 3 interceptions, which was not so good. Hopefully next week will be better against Miami!

The Knork

Apparently there is a guy named Mike Miller that has invented the Knork. I know we are all very familiar with the Spork - the spoon/fork combination found in cafeterias all over America. Well, now we have the Knork - the knife/fork combo. I found it strange at first. One side of the fork is sharp enough to cut things, but not too sharp as to cut your mouth. I am not sure about this one. Somehow I will find it hard to slide my mouth over something that can cut my steak. I have yet to see it in a store, or in an infomercial, so who knows if it will ever catch on.... But there is a website - check out the knork here - and you can place orders!

Buyer Beware

I am getting really fed up each time I go grocery shopping. Some items are going up in price and others are coming in smaller containers with a lower price to make them appear cheaper. It seems like cereal boxes have never been smaller, and milk prices never higher. For example:

-Honey Nut Cheerios was 14oz and is now 12.5oz - that is about two bowls less
-Helman's Mayo - also 2 oz less
-Brawny Paper Towels - 11 feet less
-Scott tissue still has 1000 sheets, but the sheets are smaller
-most brands of yogurt now have smaller cups too
-even Cadbury eggs have become smaller

Companies will trick consumers with new fancy packaging and improved ingredients. This is all to try to hide the fact that you are getting less for more! So next time you are shopping, read the labels closely! And don't get fooled by fancy marketing gimics!

Golf Party

Brian went to a mini-golf birthday party today for his friend N. He had a great time. Most of the kids with the exception of Brian and N were so out of control! It was just ridiculous - spitting food, hitting things with golf clubs, playing in the water, running in the parking lot, grabbing extra cupcakes and basically behaving like wild animals. The best part was that none of the parents of these wild kids decided to stay for the party - I guess they knew better! Ugh! Now I know kids will be kids and especially that boys will be boys, but there is point where I sometimes cannot believe the way kids act. Not that mine are angels all the time, but they certainly suffer the consequences when they are not!!!
