Brian's Second Grade Conference

I had Brian's conference tonight. His teacher said that he is doing well. He is reading above grade level and very strong in math. He volunteers in class and his behavior is good also. She said the only area that she sees room for improvement is in his writing. He can structure sentences well, his spelling is above average, and he has organized ideas.

The only problem is that he needs to add more detail to his writing. He needs to add more to his stories instead of just sharing the main idea sentence or two. She wants to see more emotion. Me too. Getting Brian to tell me things is like pulling teeth. Even when I ask him open-ended questions he still finds a way to come up with one word answers! Ugh! I chalk some of that up to him being a boy! Next to come is his report card!
