A First Grade Visitor!

If you have missed any earlier posts about my nephew, then I will explain the Joe was the quarterback for the University of Delaware last year. He is anxiously awaiting the NFL draft. Even with a busy schedule he found time to visit Brian - and his other cousins Maria and Matthew who are also in first grade with Brian. At six feet six inches, he made quite and impression on them before he even spoke a word!

He told them that he got where he is today with a lot of hard work and dedication. He reminded them to stay in school and to work hard for good grades. He also told them to listen to their teachers and their parents. After his short talk, he asked if they had any questions.

I have to explain that in Brian's class to play someone or to race someone is to 'verse.' Like Eagles vs. Giants. It also took a lot of convincing to get Brian to believe that it was 'out of bounds' and not 'out of balance.' Can you see all the whistle blowing in the NFL if they could get called for being off balance! The questions went something like this -

kid - Where do you live?
Joe - Audubon, few miles away
kid - Did you ever 'verse' the Steelers?
Joe - No, I am not in the NFL yet.
kid - What teams did you verse?
Joe - In college - Navy, Appalachian State, William and Mary, Delaware State, James Madison - to name a few.
kid - Did you 'verse' the Packers?
Joe - Nope. I am not in the NFL yet.
kid - Today is my birthday.
Joe - Happy Birthday. How old are you?
kid - Did you beat the Jaguars?
Joe - (smiling) No, maybe next year.
kid - What is your favorite team.
Joe - Ever since I was a kid I really liked the 49ers.
kid - Did you verse the Falcons?
Joe - Nope.
teacher - Thanks for coming Joe! Everyone say goodbye and thank you.
kids - Bye, thank you!

I think that Brian's teacher knew that the questions were not getting anywhere and saved Joe. Brian was so excited and talks about Joe all the time. He could barely sleep the night before he went in!
