Dog Days

In our house the "lazy dog days" don't even need to be in the summer! These pictures technically are in the summer, but Roc can be found snoozing around the house in any season. He has his pick of three beds, a couch, a large chair, 2 dog beds, and lots of carpet. He has not yet attempted to get in the crib - maybe if he was younger or 20 pounds lighter! And he usually prefers a pillow under his head too. Roc lives like royalty in our house, he gives new meaning to the phrase "pampered pooch!"

When we adopted him in 2001, we had great intentions. The dog would get no table food, only eat over-priced, premium dog food, and never be allowed in the bed or on the furniture. I am proud to say that those rules lasted exactly 34 seconds! If we run out of dog food Corn Pops are a great substitue and Roc has even been known to get up on the dining room table! Hey, a dog needs to eat and to be able to see out of all the windows!

He even has my Mom giving him treats - she keeps them in her car and brings him one each time she visits. My Mom is the only guest that he runs around the house whining and "talking" for. I wonder why? When he sees her car he goes crazy - we only have to say the word "Grandmom" and he starts. It has the same effect as saying "treat" or "walk" or "ride."

If you have a dog then you know what I mean. If not, go find a dog and say those words to it - make sure to use your high-pitched, baby-talk voice - it is much more effective. (warning, you will probably get dirty looks from the owner) I guarantee you will get some sort of jumping and running in circles and other frenzied moves - from the dog. Then, if you don't follow through with what you said, you will get barking and whining - from the dog. This is accompanied by rubbing and pawing and non stop annoying until they get what they want - this could be either a dog or a child. With our dog there is licking and butt-bumping included too - but I am not sure if that is very common. Just ask my husband - Roc has him trained really well. Pavlov has nothing on him!

Today, Sean decided to join Roc in an afternoon siesta. I don't think Sean ever fell asleep but he did lay there for almost an hour. He was tired from getting back into the school routine - either that or he was missing Brian and found a new friend. Of course Blankie was there too! Oh, and if you look really close you can see blue sticking out under Sean's shirt. Yep - you guessed it. It was his shirt form yesterday. I guess he knows layering is in for fall! He did have on underwear today - baby steps!
